Bernalillo County Home Visiting Work Group

The Bernalillo County Home Visiting Work Group (BCHVWG) works to connect families in Bernalillo County to culturally relevant home visiting services. A community collaborative of home visiting programs that serve children under the age of five, BCHVWG aims to achieve universal and equitable access to home visitation services that provide a supportive foundation for children, families, and the community. Established in 2010, BCHVWG unified all home visiting agencies - approximately 57 organizations and 445 community based and government partners including those in healthcare, public health, and social service systems - in the county. They were awarded $56,000 through the Equity Capacity Building Grant mechanism and their grant activities will include:

● Engagement of five pilot groups of families representative of those served by home visiting programs to participate in outreach and engagement training in their neighborhoods
● Collection or creation of community engagement and community power tools and resources that families can use in advocacy for themselves and their communities
● Developing a Community Mapping Data Analysis Report that identifies disparities and areas of intervention, impact on child well-being, possible root causes to be addressed, and generates interest in future data analysis
● Development of a qualitative evaluation summary highlighting participants’ assessment of the engagement training process and comparing pilot families and non-pilot families’ views on developing community/family power to address inequities in their lives.
