How local health districts (LHD) jointly provide communicable disease services, and the resulting effects on service volume and costs, is important for informing real world decisions. Led by the University of Washington, the Public Health Practice-Based Research Networks (PBRNs) in Washington, Wisconsin, and New York and investigators from Oregon are studying the structure of LHD shared services using measures established in previous studies. Combined with available LHD-level financial information, the study examines longitudinal relationships between LHD shared services and the costs, volume, and quality of services delivered.
