Public health systems and services are characterized by complexity so studying these requires research methods that are suitable for capturing and capitalizing on this complexity. In our program of research, we have employed a series of innovative research methods for studying complex adaptive systems including the use of concept mapping in four separate studies. In this presentation, we will present concept mapping as one approach to studying complexity, providing examples from our research program and discussing the benefits of this method for communicating the research results to public health practitioners.
