The Evolution Foundation

The Evolution Foundation in Oklahoma serves the Greenwood Historical District - formerly known as Black Wall Street - in North Tulsa. Their systems alignment challenge is to address the historical trauma and distrust of children, youth, young adults and families resulting from the 1921 Tulsa race massacre and enduring institutional racism faced by this community. The Evolution Foundation will partner with the North Tulsa Community Coalition, beauty and barber shops, Black churches, and the Tulsa County Health Department to address gaps between the need for services and the availability of those services. Capacity building work will focus on building human capacity, organizational capacity, political capacity, and structural capacity. They were awarded $75,000 through the Equity Capacity Building Grant mechanism and their grant activities will include:

  • Leadership development
  • Development of culturally and linguistically competent health, behavioral health, and social services workforces
  • Resource mobilization and allocation
  • Coalition building and advocacy
  • Strategic planning
